It’s a privilege to be involved with the Wheatland Chamber of Commerce. I look forward to the many challenges that are faced by Commerce in Wheatland. While advocating for basic town wide infrastructure improvements that are needed to support rational growth I look forward to encouraging our citizens to embrace community values.

Indeed we are a unique community. Our rural character, combined with our proximity to the geographic heart of Monroe County, contributes to that character. We are the ideal bedroom community for the working and retired folks traveling into the nooks and crannies of Monroe County. We are located minutes from the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, Marketplace Mall, downtown Rochester and the Greater Rochester International Airport.

Wheatland is truly a diverse community. We are home to one of the largest country museums in the United States. The Genesee Country Museum is a destination for thousands of folks every year. You can sit in the barbershop and catch up on local gossip. We have internationally known artists living in the community. There is an active historical association that keeps us in touch with our legacy. We can point to not one, but two, active libraries. Wheatland is a place with a unique combination of cosmopolitan and rural folks that meld together to form a diverse and interesting culture.

I encourage folks to visit Wheatland. I also encourage Wheatland’s citizens to support local business. The businesses need that support to survive and if we are to maintain our unique character we need a healthy small town business climate. We can’t do that without real community support.

December, 2005

Without a doubt, 2005 was a fantastic year for the Chamber.  Since our first General Meeting on June 11, the Chamber has rapidly become a respected organization that continues to demonstrate its commitment to Wheatland.   Thank you for lending your support during this critical, formative period.   Because of your conviction, we are solidly positioned to advance to the next stage of growth:  expanding our membership base while continuously marketing and improving our community.

We are all keenly aware of the riches in our area:  a diverse array of successful businesses; renowned outdoor and recreational opportunities; dedicated school districts that continue to strive for excellence; and the third largest living history museum in the nation.  We should be proud of these laudable resources and promote them at every opportunity.  With your continued support, 2006 promises to be another outstanding year for the Chamber and Greater Wheatland Region!

Best wishes for a prosperous year,

Elizabeth Murray
